Musculoskeletal acupuncture

Musculoskeletal Acupuncture is a newer form of acupuncture focusing on anatomical and neuro-physiological principles. This form of acupuncture is mostly used to treat muscular pain and dysfunction often represented by trigger points. Trigger points ( also known as ‘knots’) are tender and excessively tight areas found in muscles which often result in pain referral when compressed. Musculoskeletal acupuncture focuses on the release of these trigger points, resulting in both pain management and improved function of the muscle/joint involved. Musculoskeletal acupuncture improves circulation which is beneficial to an injured area that has compromised blood flow. By specific placement of the needles in the body it allows blood to flow to an injured area.
